Lucy Sparrow - Cornershop
Coming to Brighton October 2014
When I first heard about fabric artist Lucy Sparrow’s plan, in response to the decline of the UK high street, to restock an abandoned London Cornershop entirely with felt products I thought it was one of the best things I’d ever seen.
It was only when we met and talked it all through that I fully understood the enormity of what Lucy was setting out to do... everything (and I mean everything) in the shop, from the tins of baked beans, to the cigarette packets, to the pick and mix, to the Monster Munch, to the porn mags, I could go on... the list is as long as your arm... will be made entirely out of felt... each item meticulously hand sewn, stuffed and priced by Lucy herself...
Having applied to the Arts Council for funding, Lucy recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project and captured the imagination of the public to such an extent that she smashed her target overnight and ended up with five times more money pledged than she’d aimed for.
Once the London Cornershop closes it’s doors and Lucy has had chance to catch her breath, we'll be bringing the project to Brighton and transforming our new Church Street gallery into Brighton’s very own Cornershop from the 3rd of October. I already can't wait to work with Lucy on this one.
More details to follow soon... in the meantime, sign up to our mailing list and we’ll keep you updated about Cornershop.
