No Walls inaugural show at the end of September promises to be something special as Ben Frost brings his distinctive collage style mash-ups to London for his first ever UK solo show, Crapitalism.Crapitalism will be a selection of new paintings, prints and a video installation as Ben explores the darker side of consumerism in his apocalyptic hyper-pop paintings.
We've been massive fans of Ben's for years and those of you who haven't seen his work in the flesh are in for a treat.
Bold, distinctive, confronting, witty and completely original Ben uses all the tricks and techniques of the advertising industry, but not in order to sell hamburgers. He uses the symbols and icons of the media moguls, recalibrates them anew, and turns them against the propaganda industry.
It's already been a huge year for Ben, having been one of the invited headline speakers at the 2008 Semi Permanent Conferences in Sydney and Brisbane and the AGIdeas Conference in Melbourne and following recent shows in San Francisco, New York, Beijing and Amsterdam we thought it was time to give Ben the chance to show the UK what he's all about.
We're taking over the Dray Walk space within the Truman Brewery for the duration of the show, with the launch night and preview on Thursday the 25th of September.
We look forward to seeing you at Crapitalism. We'll leave the final word to Ben...
"My relationship with popular culture is a love/hate affair. I always feel like vomiting when I'm in the supermarket - but not until I've scoured the brightly lit aisles and fondled the colourful packaging and read each and every perky slogan that whispers seductively to me. This is how the world of consumerism works, and no matter how much sugar is on top, every mouthful leaves a bad taste in our mouths. This is Crapitalism."
