Damien Hirst was born in Bristol in 1965, grew up in Leeds and studied at Goldsmiths College, London. Most notable amongst the exhibitions Hirst curated whilst at college was Freeze in 1988, the exhibition widely believed to have been the starting point of the Young British Artists careers, and a defining moment in British contemporary art. Damien Hirsts work confronts the scientific, philosophical and religious aspects of human existence whilst being laced with his trademark ironic wit, and questioning art's role in contemporary culture. Damien Hirst is perhaps the worlds most famous living artist, he has exhibited widely and was awarded the Turner Prize in 1995. Quite how we came to be selling his work in our tiny Brighton gallery were not sure. But there you go. |
