No one is safe from Ben Frost's palette, a mix of logos, slogans and brands, Disney characters, Hello Kitty, the Simpsons, Lego, Powerpuff Girls and Pokmon. His weapons are the mainstream media, which manipulate the food for thought of consumers. As a post-modern pop artist Ben Frost uses all the tricks and techniques of the advertising industry, but not in order to sell hamburgers. He uses the symbols and icons of the media moguls, recalibrates them anew, and turns them against the propaganda industry. Ben Frost images are provocative: kids with pitch-black eyes getting their first heroin fix, kamikaze jets diving from a comic sky, soft porn as we know it from advertising, and other parodies of our modern and neurotic city-dwelling life. |
